Rains ARA is going to set up at Founders Day in Emory again this year. It will be Saturday May 5 at the Historical park on Hwy 69 in Emory just South of Hooten's, near the Rains Co. Library. Setup will start at 7:30, we will be on the 146.92 repeater to coordinate activities.
K5VES says "We could use another canopy or two and if someone has a portable VHF/UHF station, that would be great, otherwise we can use handhelds. Also, bring a chair..."
https://www.foundersdayfestival.org/The Wood County EMC trailer will be deployed for the rest stop at the Cotton Patch bike race.
KE5PZI has secured the EMC, Ham and radio station a booth at the fair. He requests help with running the booth.
Setup will start around 8:00 on Saturday morning with the contest starting at noon. We are planning a meal for club members, guests and anyone else that shows up to visit at 2:00. Additionally, we plan a joint club meeting 3:00 and a testing session at 4:00.
We will be running two contest stations and a "Get On the Air" station will be available for anyone, licensed or not, to try their hand at the HF contest experience. The contest is 24 hours, from noon Saturday until noon Sunday. Rains ARA will be monitoring the 146.92 repeater and the NCTC system as well.
Note: the Rains County Leader published an article about Field Day.Founder's Day 06 May 2017 (08:00 - dark thirty) Heritage Park, Emory RARA will participate with the low power FM station as well a ham booth setup. RARA monthly meeting Thursday 04 May 2017, 18:30 hrs. (6:30pm) Circle H Bbq. Emory, Tx Guest speaker from TDEM (a ham). This is important! Please be there if at all possible
There will be a Skywarn spotters class in Emory this coming Monday (3/6) at 6:30 in the Emory City Shelter on Hwy 19 north.
As a result of the Skywarn class being on Monday, there will not be a net this Monday (3/6). I expect that a large number of our members will be attending the class. Nets will resume as usual on the following Monday.
The NWS is forecasting the potential of thunderstorms later this afternoon and tonight with the possibility of some supercell development. Please stay aware of local conditions and monitor the NCTC link system if weather develops in this area.
443.625 - Rains County
444.825 - Hopkins County
We will use the 146.92 for local weather net if required.
At 9am Saturday the Rains ARA will set up a station at the EOC, like Field Day, and make the activity available to those that may not have HF capabilities at home. You don't have to have a big contest station to enjoy the activity, I will bring the TS2000 that we used for Field Day and we will hook it up to our Windom antenna. If we get enough participation, we will set up a second station.
Trent: "The plan is to keep it informal, so come by when you have some time. I will be at the EOC about 9:00 Saturday morning and , if there is enough participation, we can work into Saturday evening. To be on the safe side, call on the 146.92 repeater of give me a call to be sure we are there. "
The contest runs from 00:00 UTC Saturday to 23:59 UTC on Sunday (6:00 AM Sat - 5:59 AM Mon). Typically, most of the activity is during the day on Saturday and Saturday night so that is where we will focus our efforts... we will keep it very informal. We will try to keep a General class license or higher available so everyone can participate.
The Rains County Amateur Radio Association and the Hopkins County Amateur Radio Club are partnering again this year in a Field Day activity to be held in Emory this year at 200 Industrial in Emory. We will set up in the new Rains County Emergency Management Center. The site is near the intersection of 69 and 515 (Brookshires Grocery). When 515 crosses 69, it becomes Industrial and we will be across the street from the concrete plant. Look for the club banners.
One note on the facility; the building is still in the process of being renovated and remodeled and is far from being complete, but I am sure it will be a great Field Day site and we will be sharing the long term plan during the meeting.
We really encourage everyone to attend. Come for an hour or the whole event and we believe you will have a good time.
Planning:
Note: 2016 HAM-COM is June 11th.

Rains ARA members attended the 2015 Rains County Founder's Day festival on the courthouse square in Emory, Tx.
Traditionally, the club attends community events like this in order to increase awareness of amateur radio and the club itself, welcome the radio curious, and demonstrate the role amateur radio can play in emergency situations.
In addition, at this event the club also showed off the community's recently-activated Low Power FM (LPFM) radio station. KRER can be heard on 102.5 FM.
See more pictures from Founder's Day.
Chuck W5USJ, Eddie KE5SBZ, Trent WA5VES and Jason KF5RCA did the work. Harold KE5HER watched and snapped a few photos. Eddie did the roof work, in my opinion the hardest part. All considered, GOOD JOB GUYS!!! Thanks for the effort and support of a fellow ham. 73 Harold KE5HER
